Our department is situated on two regionally divided places. The first division of our workgroup is administration and teaching. They are situated in the MAR building on the main campus of the university.
The experimental and numerical works are done at our laboratories in the Ackerstraße 76 (Wedding). The numerical simulations run on the servers of the department of mathematics and on the servers of the The North-German Supercomputing Alliance (HLRN). In the big hall is enough space for our pilot plants, and with our own workshop we are able to design and to construct most of the experimental set-ups. Our PhD students are supported by our engineer Mr. Stüber, our laboratory assistant Mrs. Görig-Hedicke and our workshop supervisor Mr. Schwarz. The laboratories are equipped with the following analyzing and measurement techniques:

  • gas chromatography
  • high perfomance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
  • particle image velocimetry (PIV)
  • Constant-Temperature Anemometry (CTA)
  • light scatter probe
  • endoscopes with digital image analysis (incl. deep neural networks)
  • high-speed cameras with automated image analysis
  • 3D digital microscopy
  • viscosimetry (rotational, capillary, capillary breakup extensional rheometer)
  • interfacial rheology
  • tensiometry (pendant drop, spinning drop)
  • high resolution density and sound velocity meter

Furthermore, we do photometric investigations, especially for waste water analysis COD, BOD5, N, P.
